Why buy a Swim Spa over a Swimming Pool?

Many people say they would love to have a pool in their garden but think that their garden is too small. Although swimming pools come in many sizes, most outdoor residential pools in the UK are large, typically 24ft (8m) in length, or even longer.

Our Hydropool Self-Cleaning Swim Spas come in a variety of sizes from only 12ft (4m) up to 19.5ft (6m) and even 2 swimmers can swim side by side in some of our models.

Our Swim Spas can be installed above ground, partially in-ground or fully in-ground.

They can even be installed indoors!

Initial Budget

Most people have a budget in mind when considering works to be carried out in their garden. So, considering the cost of the 2 projects is one of the first things you’ll consider.

Generally, an in-ground liner swimming pool measuring about 24ft x 12ft (the most popular size in the UK) will cost in the region of about £40,000 – £50,000 depending on a few parameters. These pools take approx. 3-4 weeks to complete (depending on our English weather, of course!). A Hydropool Self-Cleaning 14ft swim spa, however, would only cost in the region of approx. £25,000 and typically takes a mere day or two to install.

Running Costs

Running costs of a swimming pool far exceed the costs of running our fully insulated Hydropool Self-Cleaning Swim Spas. We estimate that there would be a less than a quarter price difference to run.

With a liner swimming pool, you would only be able to heat the water to approximately 28°c as any hotter would rapidly deteriorate the liner and this would cost £4,000 or so to replace. However, the Hydropool Self-Cleaning Swim Spas temperature range from 16°c to 40°c, which is hot tub temperature, therefore making this the ideal pool and suitable for 365 days of the year!

A home swimming pool is often closed down and switched off during the Winter months as the pipework could freeze and crack, at a further cost, so usage is typically limited to about 6 months of the year.

Maintenance

Who wants to spend their free time cleaning, netting, back-washing, adding chemicals, etc. for hours on end? With the In-built Self-Cleaning system in our Hydropool Swim Spas, the water is automatically filtered and cleaned for you every 45 minutes. Whereas, a swimming pool would typically take 6-12 hours to filter and clean the same volume of water, and that’s only if assuming a pump is on permanently.

The safety and cleanliness is far superior with a Hydropool Self-Cleaning Swim Spa and far safer for you and your family.

The Hydropool Self-Cleaning Swim Spa also has an in-built chlorinator so here again, regular maintenance of simply rinsing the filter through with your garden hose and adding tablets to our in-built feeder is literally all you have to do. You may check that you have enough sanitiser and check your pH levels but basically, the swim spa does most of the work for you, saving you time and allowing you more time to spend enjoying it with your family and friends.

All year round, children can surf, swim, run or relax whilst adults can soothe their aches away using the massage seating, or even use the pool as an aquatic gym!

A swimming pool would require a Summer and Winter cover which would most probably need to be purchased separately, costing you more. Portable

Another benefit of buying a Hydropool Self-Cleaning Swim Spa is that it is portable. We can hiab/crane them to relocate them extremely easily. You can even take it with you should you decide to move to a new house, unlike a swimming pool which would have to be left behind. Leaving a swimming pool may even affect the selling of your home with the costs associated with them.

All in all, we’re finding that customers are moving away from swimming pools and more towards the idea of purchasing a swim spa.
